5 Tips for Hiring at Your Childcare Center [Free Guide and Templates]

Many childcare centers are still understaffed due to the pandemic and even more so are finding it harder to hire and retain quality staff members. However, that’s only part of the problem.

Hiring staff at your childcare center comes with the tasks of creating, posting, and managing job listings. This process can be difficult and time-consuming, especially in this competitive industry. In addition, it’s not always easy to identify what information should and should not be included in your job descriptions.

A good job description will allow the right candidates to see and apply for your job postings. To ensure your ideal candidates take the right steps, make sure your job descriptions are accurate, clear, and enticing.

To help you out, Kangarootime has put together several job descriptions tips and templates for possible roles at your center.

1) Outline Your Requirements

This can include education requirements, preferred experience, ideal attitude, and more. Think of this as a wish list for your ideal candidate. Page 3 of the free Hiring Guide has examples of education or experience requirements.

2) Address Daily Responsibilities

A large part of your job description will outline your new hire’s day-to-day responsibilities as a member of your center. Page 5 of the free Hiring Guide has examples of day-to-day responsibilities for various positions at your center.

3) Highlight Benefits and Compensation

This is especially important now as candidates greatly value flexibility and strong benefits. By avoiding disclosing this information you may miss out on potential candidates.

4) Showcase your Center’s Values and Story

By outlining your center’s brand and core mission, you’re inviting in the right staff members who will help your center grow.

5) Hire in the Right Places

Visibility is crucial in finding the right candidates and ensuring you have enough applicants to choose from. Page 6 of the free Hiring Guide has suggestions for where to post your open positions.
